About the Project

The Mat-Su Borough is planning a road improvement project to upgrade Johnsons Road to Major Collector standards.

A typical road design includes:

  • Design and surveying
  • Clearing within the right-of-way (as required)
  • Utility relocations
  • Improving ditches and drainage
  • Culvert installations
  • Roadway material improvements including subgrade, base course, and surface course
  • Constructing the road to meet width standards
  • Pedestrian facility evaluation

Where

The project area is located along Johnsons Road from Hollywood Road to the Parks Highway. It is approximately 1.92 miles in length.

When

The Mat-Su Borough has contracted with Professional and Technical Services, Inc (PTS) to provide engineering and design services. Survey, environmental, and geotechnical field crews will be working to collect data within the project area in July and August 2025. Additional public outreach is planned for Fall 2025 and Spring 2025. Construction is anticipated in 2028. This schedule is subject to change due to funding, right-of-way, utility relocations, and/or Assembly approval.
